Nowon Children’s Library
The purpose of this library is to provide a cultural experience for children where they can build ideal
reading habits to grow up to be upright and healthy. It was opened in February 2003 and is located from B1
to the 3rd floor (gross floor area 1,274㎡) of Sat-gat-bong
gun-lin park (356-1, 356), Joong-ge 4-dong. Major facilities include reading room, morgue, mother-child reading room, culture viewing room, electronic information room, stack room, culture classroom, game room, children’s playroom, and lounge.
Nowon Cultural Arts Center
This building has three stories below and 6 above the ground and is located on 3,071㎡ of land at 364-3~7, Joong-gye-bon-dong. (gross floor area13,167㎡) It’s an integrated facility of culture and art that includes a large performance hall with 616 seats, a small performance hall with 292 seats, a sky lounge with 150 seats, exhibition hall, a multipurpose hall, an outside stage on a grass plaza, and other subsidiary facilities.
House of Culture
This space is open to all residents so that anyone can have access to cultural and art information and participate in various cultural programs. It is 540㎡ in size and is located in the 1st basement of Ma-dul station, line number 7. The construction began in October 2000 and the House opened in April 2001. The main facilities include a culture viewing room, a culture-creation room, a culture-love room, a children’s playroom, a resting lounge, a karaoke room, and an internetㆍCDㆍvideo booth.
Eastern Castle (old Tae-reung blue garden)
This nature park is located at 26 2-dong, Gong-reung. It was registered and established as a foundation on the May 18, 1979 and is approximately 170,000㎡. It changed the name from Blue garden to Eastern castle on March of 2003. The park is home to the Tae-reung International Shooting Range is located which holds various domestic and international shooting competitions. But it’s also open to the general public for clay/air gun/pistol shooting. There is also a 6,000-pyeong outdoor swimming pool which is surrounded by rich green tracts of land. The place is usually full of people during the summer.
Tae-reung Athletes village
This general training camp for athletes was established in August 1966 by the Korea Sports Council for the intensive training of the athletes and first-line coaches and is located in San 223-19 of Gong-reung 2-dong. All members and candidates of the national team can enter the facility at any time for training, team-building, and intensive power training purposes. The facilities include a boarding house, cafeteria, basic/expert physical strength enhancement facilities such as a circuit-weight training facility, an athletics stadium, a soccer field with artificial grass, various indoor/outdoor ball game fields, an international sized indoor swimming pool and a skating rink.
Tae-reung International skating rink
This international skating rink was established by the Korea Sports Council in order to train the members of the national team of speed skating, expand the base for the general skaters and promote balanced improvement of winter and summer sports. It was completed in February 2000 and is located in San 223-19 of Gong-reung-dong. The 27,067㎡ (gross floor area) building is one story below and three on the ground . The skating rink has the width of 15m and the length of 400m track and it’s the 8th in the world to have a 400m track. There is also a width 61m, length 30m of subsidiary rink besides this and the stands that can hold 2,783 spectators.
This archery field is located in Dong-mak-gol of Soo-rak Mountain. In the hopes of inheriting the traditional martial art of archery, the community members of Gook-goong gathered together to establish an archery society in May 1977. They installed the archery field in 639, Sang-gye-dong of Nowon-gu and called it Soo-rak-jung. Due to the housing development project in Sang-gye, they moved the field to the present location in 1986 and continue to exercise their strong will. Later, on May 9, 1994, they established a tile-roofed pavilion with a Korean-style wooden structure to commemorate the 600th anniversary of Seoul and to inherit our traditional martial arts.
It is located in the entrance of Soo-rak-gol in Soo-rak Mountain. It was the main building of a country house that belonged to Young-poong-bu-won-goon. Hong Bong-han was owned by a prime minister during the Joseon Dynasty under the reign of King Young-jo, but was purchased by and now belong to Duk-sung university and is used as a living home. There was an autumnal sentiment Woo-woo-dang hanging board hanging in the main building of a country house at the time and there’s still a riding squad remaining near the apricot tree in front of an entrance. When the Hong family had strong authority over the country, the place was used as a gathering place for literary politicians to discuss theology, loyalty, and filial piety
Nowon-gu Information Library
This library has four stories below and one above the ground (gross floor area 6,526㎡) and is located inside On-su-gun-lin Park (number 686) in Sang-gye-dong. This information library is equipped with advanced digital facilities and was completed in November 2005. The main facilities include electronic information reading room, a general resource room, an auditorium, a culture classroom, and a lounge.
Children’s Transportation Park
This park was co-developed with KBS to educate children about the importance of traffic laws and about how to prevent traffic accidents and is located inside Dal-mat-yi-gun-lin Park (number 500 of Joong-ge 2-dong). There is a replica of an actual street and two-way roads, traffic lights, crosswalks, complete with intersections. There are also model cars, bicycles, and motorcycles. The place is available for field trips, and the volunteer group of mothers gives lessons on accident prevention by case.
Nowon-gu resource recovery facility
This facility was established in 1997 to incinerate wastes to maintain an environmentally friendly city environment, extend the use-by date of landfills in the capital region, to use the heat created during incineration to produce electricity, and to use it as a heat source for heating. It is located in 772, Sang-gye 6-dong. The facility sits on 14,008 pyeong of land and the building is 8,783 pyeong. It includes advanced facilities such as electric dust collectors, wet rot cleaning tower, and an SCR catalytic tower that removes dioxins
It’s the only military museum in Korea. After its opening as the memorial hall of Korean military academy on October 3rd of 1956, new construction of the present building started on May 15th of 1981 and opened officially as the military museum on May 1st of 1985. It is located inside the Korean military academy and is 6,000㎡in size. Facilities include exhibition hall, assembly hall and administrative office. More than 10 thousand relics are displayed including 11 articles of 9 different national treasures.
